My Partner and I have visited Akaroa three times, the views are absolutely beautiful, the French heritage is evident, gardens are well maintained around the village. There are lots of little shops, cafes and restaurants to suit all.

Lots to do here. Great shops and cafes/restaurants. You must sail on the Fox II to see the dolphins, penguins and seals and learn about the local history. Outstanding!
Very walkable town and also some good hiking.

Akaroa is a must-visit township, it has some amazing cafes/restaurants, and the food is great and varied. Some of them have both inside and outside seating so it is lovely to take advantage of that on a nice day. There are also some great wee shops to visit where you can find a treasure of two. We found a gin-tasting cafe that is a must-visit when you are there and also an Indian Restaurant whose food was amazing. All the shops and cafes are within walking distance if your accommodation is in town. There are some great walks to go on and we also went swimming with the dolphins which is an experience I highly recommend when you are in Akaroa.

We loved the quaint historic town.
We loved the quaint historic town. We loved its French flavour. The cafe’s and restaurants outstanding especially Ma Maison where we had the best meal ever. The food, the flavours and the welcoming staff, outstanding! We had breakfast at The Common, again fabulous. We loved walking round the bay to the quay. Everyone was so friendly and happy to stop and talk. At the end of the quay was the prize, the beautiful pearl shop, an absolute must to visit. We can’t wait to return. Already planning a longer trip.

I have been a regular visitor as my French ancestors founded it. The only thing that stops me coming more often is that dangerous-feeling hill up and down. Nice, quiet (mostly) place that focuses on food, events and nature. Need to put in a lot more effort to add more genuine French flavour to shops and activities. A simple Bonjour is not too difficult. Akaroa's true French nature is being dumbed down by new arrivals who are only interested in commerical gain.
The property is located just a little further from Akaroa and is a very beautifully landscaped place. We enjoyed our visit very much and walked the property with all the flowers and nice views.
The hosts Nicky and Fram treated us so well and surprised us with several delicious treats at our arrival. We also enjoyed the great advice for food and things to do in the area.
We would stay there again for sure.
2 bedroom waterfront villa with beautiful views. We stayed upstairs which is a flight of stairs no lift. Room had 2 balconies to sit out on. One off the lounge room and one off the bedroom connecting. Had a lovely kitchenette, wifi, comfortable bed. In town location with a 5 minute walk to restaurants and the wharf for boat trips. This is our second stay here in beautiful Akaroa.
Exceptionally beautiful surroundings, remote yet close to town…. The bird song here at dawn was one of the highlights of my trip. The hosts are friendly and attentive. The view is from a high hillside overlooking Akaroa, very special. The lodge room was entirely unique, especially the sweet loft room ( for fit adults or children only) .
We received a friendly welcome on arrival and were provided with all the relevant information regarding our stay. We asked for restaurant recommendations and were not disappointed with the dinner we had at the Madeira Hotel. Our room was very clean, and the kitchen was well equipped.
We had a fantastic time at the historic Mill Cottage. We had afternoon tea on the deck before exploring Akaroa. The bed was very comfortable, and with no street lights or traffic lights, we had a great slepp. We enjoyed breakfast! Highly recommend for a treat weekend or night away.
We love this homestay. Very clean and tidy. The couple are very kind and friendly. The husband told us in detail where to visit in Akaroa. We appreciate that. We love the courtyard with very beautiful flowers. We enjoyed our stay in Halfmoon Cottage.
Lovely cosy cottage with everything you needed. Close to Akaroa town . Would stay again when back in New Zealand.Lyn sent directions to the cottage very easy to follow. Lyn has done a lovely job of doing the cottage up. Would highly recommend.
Having been there twice before and having walked all round Akaroa looking at other hotels etc. we decided that this was probably the best place to stay. One main advantage was that you could swim from the premises and hire boats as well.
great location in a private bush setting about a 15 minute walk to Akaroa. the deck had beautiful harbour views and the cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. it was clean and fresh with a very comfortable bed.
It was a comfortable stay with family. The Bruce apartments had most things that you need to use on holiday. A wonderful view. The service stuff were nice. A 1min walk to town. We will be back again soon.
In the end we did not stay in the Summerhouse as Anne kindly upgraded us to the cottage at no extra expense as the weather was forecast to be a bit unsettled Therefore this review applies to the cottage.
so unique, location at center of town, comfortable size, very clean, the coffee and pastry around the corner, happy hour at the corner bar, 2 parking spots with unit. Nice spot to be in Akaroa.
The house is so charming and right near all of Akaroa’s restaurants and shops. Breakfast was such a highlight — we loved getting to know other guests and of course Tim’s amazing food!
